A one and only departure per year, because of the very short harvest season, which generally takes place within a two-week period in the month of October.
This tour takes you to a truly special event – the annual harvesting of the saffron flower in La Mancha (central Spain), the land of Don Quixote. Your visit will shed new light on this product and reveal the reasons behind its enormous value. Discover the roots of La Mancha Saffron, the most expensive spice in the world… not to mention the secret to Spanish Paella’s unique color and flavor!
You’ll also visit La Vera, in Extremadura, whose world-famous pimentón (a type of Spanish paprika) remains one of the defining ingredients in Spanish cuisine. Capsicum peppers have a short period of harvesting as well, coinciding in time with the saffron season. We’ll take advantage of this coincidence and show you the magic of the harvest.
To top it all off, enjoy fantastic cultural visits along the rustic Trail of Don Quixote, including ancient monasteries, beautiful gardens, and picturesque medieval towns.
This once in a lifetime experience will show you the soul of this land… and give you a taste of it!
